  • I’m not sure if I could really answer this question as I make a point to NOT watch the news, or violent TV shows. I think, though, they probably do add to the physical symptoms, such as the anxiety of seeing a violent act happening, or seeing images of people that need help and one is unable to do much of anything about it because you are half a world away.

But I know for myself at least, they may not contribute to stress, they certainly don’t relieve it.

  • Thanks for your response!  I agree with what you said.  I try to stay informed by watching and listening to current event shows (though not “network news” which I find tends to focus on negative, isolated incidents and not necessarily world issues).  But while being informed requires accessing information, sometimes the information itself is stressful and overwhelming!

  • I get my news off the web. As I’m a visual learner, pictures stay with me a long time, where print I remember the gist, and not the details.

If I sense I’m getting stressed from what I’m learning, I find it’s easier to shut down a web page and walk away than to shut off a TV and leave it behind me.
